There were several fine performances from the Shercock athletes at the NI and Ulster U14 to U20 Championships on the 10th and 11th of June which was held at Mary Peters Track in Belfast.
Erelle O’Sullivan and Aoife Rogers competed in the under 14 girls. Aoife was first up in the 75m hurdles. Aoife finished strong in her heat to progress to the final where she finished in 5th place. Both Aoife and Erelle were in the 200m. Aoife finished 3rd in her heat and Erelle won her heat. In the final both girls finished strongly with Erelle taking the gold and Aoife the bronze. Both girls were also in the long jump. Aoife best jump of 4.35m secured her the bronze medal with Erelle jumping 4.12m to finish in 5th place. Erelle was also in the 80m, in the heat she finished second to progress to the final where in a photo finish she narrowly missed out on 3rd place.
Freya Gromley and Charlee Williams competed in the under 15 girls. In the 2.5kg hammer Charlee throw 37.02m to take the silver medal. In the 1kg discus Freya throw a new PB of 18.82m to finish in 4th place which qualifies her for the All Irelands. Freya was also 5th in the 80m hurdles and 8th in the shotput.
Abby Smith U15, competed In a very competitive 1500m. Abby who is just back from injury finished in 5th place in a time of 4.57.81. Éadaoin Lynch and Lily Mc Elroy competed in the under 16 girls. Éadaoin competed in the 100 and 200m. In the 100m Éadaoin was 3rd in her heat but in a very close final she finish 2nd in 13.19s. In the 200m Éadaoin was 4th in her heat, with a strong finish in the final she finished in 3rd place in a time of 26.20s. Lilly competed in the 200m and 250m hurdles. In the 200m Lilly was 4th in her heat and narrowly missed out on a place in the final. In the 250m hurdles Lilly finished in 5th place.
Mark Kearns and Thomas Williams competed in the under 16 boys. In very hot conditions on Saturday Mark competed in the 3000m, Mark finished in 2nd position in a time of 9.26.94. On Sunday in a very competitive 1500m Mark finished 3rd in a new PB of 4.14.65. In the 4kg hammer Thomas throw a massive 70.47m to take the gold.
Grace Gormley and Aoibheann Mulligan competed in the women’s under 18. In the 1kg discus Grace throw 27.62m to take the gold and in the 3kg hammer Grace throw 36.28m to finish in 2nd place. Aoibheann competed in the 100 and 200m. In the 200m Aoibheann took the gold in a time of 27.19s and in the 100m Aoibheann finished a close second in a time of 13.29s
Shane Mulligan competed in the 100 and 200m in the men’s under 19. In the 200m Shane finished strong to take the gold in 23.33s, again in the 100m Shane had a strong finish to take his second gold in 11.58s
