Congratulations to Dylan O’Reilly and Abby Smith who both medalled at the NI and Ulster Uneven Ages XC Championships in Stranorlar, Co. Donegal at the weekend.
Dylan was competing in the U13 Boys 2k and from the early stages was well positioned in the top eight. As the race moved into the final stages, Dylan began to pick off the runners in front of him and moved into 3rd place with 100m to go, to secure the bronze medal.
Abby Smith was competing in the U15 3k. From very early on, Madison Welby from the City of Lisburn AC, set a fast pace followed closely by Abby. The two girls pulled away from the rest of the field and although Abby shadowed Madison all the way, the City of Lisburn athlete opened a gap in the final stages of the race to take the gold medal with Abby just a few seconds behind in 2nd place.
Our other competitors on the day were Cadhla Liggan and Eadaoin McGuirk U11, our U13 girls, Eimear Byrne, Eimear McGuirk, Sarah Kate Liggan, Chloe Crosbie and Amy Crosbie, Ben Smith U15 and Mark Kearns U17 who all put in strong performances in their respective races, in very tough conditions. Well done to all the athletes who competed on the day.
Thank you also to all the parents who made the long trip to Stranorlar to support the athletes and the club.
